Mankato United Soccer Club is excited to announce the immediate expansion of the soccer club with a WPSL franchise. The WPSL (Women’s Premier Soccer League) is the largest women’s league in the world with 119 teams for 2019. The WPSL has teams in 34 states as it prepares for its 22nd season. Mankato United’s decision to expand with a WPSL team is a strategic opportunity as soccer continues to grow in the greater Mankato area. Mankato United currently has more than 1,500 youth players and adding adult women’s soccer is the next step to meet the needs of our soccer community and to continue growing the game of soccer across southern Minnesota. WPSL teams focus primarily on collegiate soccer players who are honing their skills during the summer or who are planning to take a leap to professional domestic or international teams in the future. In many ways, the Mankato United WPSL team is the soccer equivalent to the Mankato MoonDogs. The Mankato United WPSL team will play in the Central Region and the Northern Conference. The Northern Conference includes four other Minnesota teams (three in the Minneapolis area and one in Rochester), and one team in North Dakota.
The team will play 10 games during the summer season. Home games will be played in the evening at the Caswell North Soccer Complex on the following dates this year: Saturday June 8, Saturday June 15, Sunday June 23, Tuesday July 2, and Friday July 5. Full concessions will be available during home games including beer, burgers, hot dogs and more. Mankato United WPSL will offer a competitive and entertaining environment for both players and fans. Game day tickets will be $5 for adults and $3 for youth.
